Choosing your bridal party can be exciting and nerve-racking all at the same time. But, how do you choose? You have dreamed of your best friend being your Maid of Honor for years, but you also love your sister, and do not want her to feel usurped.
How about your college friends as bridesmaids? You’ve been staying in touch with two of them for a couple years now, but the third one in your college friend group you don’t really talk to anymore. But, would she be offended if she wasn’t asked to be a bridesmaid? She is really close to the other two….
How about your cousins? You don’t know them super well, but your mom values family relations, and it would mean a lot to her to have them as part of the bridal party. You do see your cousins every Christmas after all. Would there be hard feelings if they were not in the wedding? Would your mom be worried about it even if you weren’t concerned?
Take a deep breath, and smile. Remember that this is your wedding, and that you need to be surrounded by the girls you want to support you on the big day.
It is important to consider family desires, but, at the same time, realize that these are your bridesmaids, not your mom’s. You can ask relations to wear your wedding colors, so they can still feel included in your wedding!
As to sister or best friend as Maid of Honor, remember that each one loves you and wants what you want for your big day. Let each know how special they are to you. Then, go with the most dependable person who will organize all the bridal events leading up to the wedding day, and be at your right hand throughout it.
