Last winter, many of us at Rosemont got bit by a bug….not the flu or the common cold….but the DOWNTON ABBEY bug. Our Manor House Chef, Tona Bays gets the credit for introducing most of us to the wonderful world of the Crawley Family and their contemporaries, and our lunch time chatter at Rosemont has never been the same.
So last spring we were inspired to begin our “Downton Abbey Teas”, held periodically throughout the year for guests to step back in time and enjoy a lovely afternoon tea, much like they might partake with the Dowager Countess or Lady Cora Grantham. (Want to come to one? Check the tea schedule to see if there is one coming up!)
The teas have been a smashing success, so the next logical event was to pull out all the stops and pull on our long, elbow gloves and host an elegant “Dinner at Downton”. Several months in the planning, this fabulous event was held on Friday, January 9th, 2015.
The event sold-out as fast as we could get the word out, and the guests who came fully embraced the fun! It was our delight to greet ladies in their best Edwardian English finery, men in white tie and tails, and even a few tiaras and top hats, to boot!
The four-course dinner with wine pairings was in keeping with Downton’s style and sophistication, and guests stayed the night at Rosemont, awakening to a lovely breakfast in the Rosemont room (sorry, married ladies, you did have to get out of bed for breakfast!).
The evening was so wonderful, and our guests so gracious, that we hope to offer another Dinner at Downton sometime in the Spring or Summer. Keep an eye out for future Downton Tea and Dinner at Downton events on our Facebook page as well as here on the Rosemont blog and website.
Special thank you to: Labrador Entertainment and Caroline Lynch Photography for partnering with us for Dinner at Downton!
Ta-ta for now, darlings!
